Laboratory of Veterinary Nutrition

Laboratory of Veterinary Nutrition

Veterinary nutrition is a discipline that seeks to understand animal life phenomena and diseases from a nutritional perspective. Nutrient intake and metabolism are deeply involved in growth, maintenance of health, and both the onset and recovery of disease. Therefore, in order to correctly understand and treat animal diseases, it is essential to acquire knowledge of nutritional metabolism and the resulting physiological changes occurring within the body.
Our laboratory focuses on research into sarcopenia and cachexia associated with chronic diseases such as cancer, kidney disease, and heart disease, as well as metabolic changes during aging, and immunometabolic mechanisms in obesity and metabolic disorders. We also aim to improve the quality of life of companion animals by developing individualized diet formulations and conducting clinical nutritional evaluations applicable in veterinary practice.
