Dean's Message
“서울대학교 수의과대학은 세계를 선도하는
수의학 교육・연구기관으로 발돋움하고 있습니다.“
Greetings,
Seoul National University College of Veterinary Medicine has made remarkable growth in the past 25 years. In 2019, we became the only institution in Asia to receive accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education (AVMA COE), establishing ourselves as a world-class educational institution. With the establishment of a new animal hospital, a Biotechnology Research Building, the Pyeongchang Industrial Animal Clinical Training Center, and a Large Animal Hospital, we continue to expand our facilities. Looking ahead, we are actively developing ranch facilities and a new small animal hospital with funding and design planning already secured. Alongside these advancements, the social standing of veterinary profession has significantly improved, attracting outstanding students who are growing into future leaders of veterinary medicine.
Now, we set our sights on further strengthening our research capabilities and clinical excellence to establish ourselves as a truly world-leading college of veterinary medicine. To achieve this, we uphold the core values of Compassion, Communication, and Community Engagement.
Compassion
We need to grow as professionals who have a deep understanding and empathy for the pain and emotions of animals as well as humans. Compassion is one of the most essential virtues a veterinarian must possess. Our college is dedicated to fostering professionals with a strong sense of empathy and respect for all living beings.
Communication
The ability to actively communicate with others, rather than remaining isolated, is a core quality of a veterinarian. The greatness of humanity lies in the desire and ability to treat species beyond its own, and this mission can only be realized through excellent communication skills. Our college emphasizes not only clinical expertise but also academic and social connections, fostering graduates who engage with an open mind and a willingness to exchange ideas.
Community Engagement
Guided by the philosophy of “One Earth, One Health,” we recognize that the global community is interconnected as a single health ecosystem. Veterinary medicine is not just about individual success; it is about contributing to the well-being of society. Our college is dedicated to instilling this value in our students, cultivating professionals who are committed to serving both local and global communities.
Today, Korean society expects us to be a distinguished and respected veterinary college. In response, we will continue to nurture talented individuals equipped with compassion, communication, and a strong sense of community, fulfilling our role as global leaders.
We sincerely welcome the students who will lead the future of veterinary medicine and deeply appreciate the dedication of our faculty and staff. We are grateful to all those who share our vision and will walk with us, and we look forward to the interest and support of the Korean community.
Thank you.
